During a news conference after Chauvin was convicted in three criminal cases, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the result a "step in the right direction."
U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday criticized former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, thanking George Floyd, a black man who has become a symbol of the fight against racist justice after he was convicted of murder.
"To George Floyd, thank you for sacrificing your life for justice," Pelosi said, referring to Floyd's death in May when Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes.
"Speaker Pelosi's remarks about George Floyd were completely inappropriate. At the very least, he should apologize," said Josh McLaurin, a Democratic member of Georgia's state legislature on Twitter. How much will benefit from the black speaker? "
Geoffrey, a black Democratic judge with a high position in the House Democratic leadership, is likely to be seen as the future speaker or majority in the House.
The Pelosi-led House has passed the "George Floyd Justice in Polishing Act," aimed at preventing offensive law enforcement targets targeting African Americans and other minorities.
The bill has not yet been considered by the Senate, police have banned outposts and will not ban any arrest warrants, police departments will limit the use of military equipment and officers must wear body cameras. It will also help in filing cases against the police for misconduct.
