On the 70th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic space flight, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would still be an important power in terms of space and nuclear capabilities. On April 12, 1971, Yuri Gagarin, the first man on Earth, made his first extraterrestrial journey. Monday was his 70th birthday. Gagarin's space trip was seen as a major victory for the Soviet Union when the United States was engaged in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. This is seen as a very important moment in the space race against the United States. It is still seen as an achievement of pride by the Soviet Union, now Russia. On this day, Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at a sculpture made near the Eagles, the landing place of Yuri Gagarin. He told senior officials there that the incident had undoubtedly changed the world.
This is what our country has been able to do, for which the door to space has opened, for which we are always proud. He added that in the 21st century, Russia must properly maintain its leading position in nuclear and space power.
Note that in 1981, Yuri Gagarin orbited the earth in 108 minutes. This spread his fame all over the world. He was called a national hero in the then Soviet Union. Statues and sculptures were erected in his honor at various places. Members of the Communist Party, the head of Russia's space agency Roscosmos, laid a wreath at Gagarin's tomb in the Kremlin on Monday.
